Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
My One is the master of the masterless.
I have come to the shelter of the One who saves. Protect me on every side; guard me in what is to come, in what has been, and at the very last.
The One is the refuge of exactly those who have no one else — 'master of the masterless' — covering a life from every side.
The Pause line names the One "the Master of the masterless" — the refuge for exactly those who have no one else, no protector, no backing. And the plea is for protection across all time: past, future, and "the very last moment." The One who belongs to the un-belonging covers a life from every direction and at every stage.
A Question to Sit With
When you've felt you had no one to turn to, where did you turn? Who is 'master of the masterless' for you?
