Verse 2 of 4

When the Good Is Your Default, Every Thought Leads Home

ਜਬ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਤਬ ਤੁਹਾਰੇ ॥
jab chitva-o tab tuhaaray.
Whenever something comes to mind, it is You.
ਉਨ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਧਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
un samHaar mayraa man saDhaaray. ||2||
Contemplating Your virtues, my mind is sanctified. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whenever anything comes to mind, it is You.

Turning over Your goodness, my mind is made clean.

When the good becomes the default your mind returns to, every thought leads home — and that attention itself cleanses you.
The deeper layer

A lovely, simple verse: "whenever something comes to mind, it is You." The One has become the default of the mind, so that any thought leads back to it. And dwelling on its virtues cleanses — attention shapes the mind, so attention on the good makes the mind good.

A Question to Sit With

What does your mind return to by default? Where does it lead you?
