Verse 3 of 4

The Teaching Sung and the Company That Carries It

ਸੁਨਿ ਗਾਵਉ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਾਰੇ ॥
sun gaava-o gur bachnaaray.
I hear and sing the Hymns of the Guru's Word.
ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ਸਾਧ ਦਰਸਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
bal bal jaa-o saaDh darsaaray. ||3||
I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the Holy. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I hear and sing the words of the teaching.

I am a sacrifice to the sight of the good.

The teaching heard and sung, and the company that carries it, honored together — simple, glad, and whole.
The deeper layer

A short verse pairing the practice — hearing and singing the Word — with reverence for good company. The two go together throughout the raag: the teaching received, and the community that carries it, honored. Simple, glad, whole.

A Question to Sit With

What pairs, for you, a good practice with good company?
