Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One purifies the fallen and drives away all distress.
The mighty One gives its protective shelter; Nanak says the One's Name.
The Vaar moves toward its resolution (P45-P53) with the theme of rescue. The One is "the Purifier of sinners" — the very ones who feel most unworthy are the ones it purifies (broken is the qualification, not the disqualification). And it "gives His Protective Sanctuary" — the mighty One's power is used not to judge but to shelter. This reframes divine strength entirely: the One's might is on the side of the failing and the frightened, offered as refuge. The seeker's only response is to say the Name.
How does it change things to imagine that great power is on the side of the struggling and frightened, offered as shelter rather than judgment?
