The Whole Rescue: Let Go of Self, Take Hold of the One

In plain words

Letting go of all self-conceit, I hold tight to the One's feet.

My sorrows and troubles have left me, Nanak, seeing the One.

The whole rescue in one move: let go of self-importance, take hold of the One. You don't have to solve all your troubles first — release the ego that was half the problem, hold on, and the troubles lift.
The deeper layer

The mechanism of the rescue, in one line: "renouncing all self-conceit, I hold tight to the Lord's Feet." The ego released, the feet grasped — that single movement, and "sorrows and troubles depart." Guru Arjan keeps it this simple: you don't have to solve all your troubles first; you let go of the self-importance that was half the problem and take hold of the One, and the troubles lift. The seeing (darshan) does the rest. It is the whole path in miniature — drop the ego, hold the One, be relieved.

A Question to Sit With

What might lift if you set down the need to defend your own importance and simply held onto something good and steady?
