The Restless Mind Finds Its Calm

manoo-aa chalai chalai baho baho biDh mil saaDhoo vasgat kari-aa.
The mind roams and rambles all around in all directions. Meeting with the Holy, it is overpowered and brought under control,

just as when the fisherman spreads his net over the water, he catches and overpowers the fish. ||2||

In plain words

My mind wanders and wanders, off in so many directions. Meeting the holy people, it is brought under control,

just as a fisherman spreads his net over the water and catches the fish and holds them.

A scattered mind can be gathered back home among holy people.
The deeper layer

A mind that runs everywhere is gathered and steadied among holy people.

Manoo-aa chalai chalai baho baho biDh means "the little mind runs and runs, in many, many ways." Vasgat kari-aa means "brought under control."

The fisherman's net is a picture of gathering. Fish dart everywhere in open water, and the net draws them all into one place. The company of the holy does that for scattered thoughts: it draws them in, so the mind can rest in one place.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your mind settle when it is racing everywhere at once?
