The Saints, the Saints of the Lord, are noble and good. Meeting with the humble Saints, filth is washed away.

All the sins and egotism are washed away, like soap washing dirty clothes. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The saints of the One, the saints, are noble and good. Meeting those humble saints, the dirt on me is washed away.

All my wrongdoing and ego is washed right out, the way soap washes dirty clothes clean.

## One-Line Takeaway *The sense of being cut off from everything can be washed clean, like dirt from cloth.
The deeper layer

Time with the One's saints washes away ego and wrongdoing, the way soap cleans cloth.

Mil sant janaa mal lahee-aa means "meeting the humble saints, the dirt is washed off." Ha-umai durat means "ego and wrongdoing." Ha-umai is ego: the feeling of being a separate self, cut off from everything else.

The soap-and-cloth picture treats ego as a stain that comes out in the wash. A shirt is still a good shirt under the mud. Washing shows it again.

A Question to Sit With

When has spending time with someone left you feeling lighter and clearer?
