In plain words

My Master wrote my destiny on my forehead from the very beginning, and so I hold the feet of the Guru, the True Guru, inside my heart.

I have found the One, who breaks all poverty and pain. Nanak says: I, Your servant, am saved through the Naam.

What was written deep in you can draw you home to the Naam.
The deeper layer

What was written for you from the start draws you to the Guru, and the Naam carries you through.

Mastak lilaat likhi-aa means "written on the forehead." It is an old picture of destiny, the deep pattern that draws a life toward its home. Gur satgur charan ur Dhari-aa means "I have placed the Guru's feet in my heart," a way of keeping the Guru's teaching close.

Daalad dookh bhanj means "the One who breaks poverty and pain." Jan naanak naam uDhri-aa means "servant Nanak is saved through the Naam." Guru Ram Das signs his verses as Nanak. The Naam is the living presence of the One, held in your awareness.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that feels like it has been quietly guiding you toward what matters?
