Joining the Sangat, the Congregation, I listen to the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har. My crude and uncultured mind is drenched with the Love of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

My mind is the dust under the feet of the saints.

Joining the Sangat, I listen to the story of the One, Har, Har. My rough, plain mind is soaked in the color of the One's love.

Even a rough, plain heart soaks up love when it listens in the Sangat.
The deeper layer

A humble mind that listens in the Sangat soaks up the One's love, the way plain cloth takes on dye.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Mayraa man sant janaa pag rayn means "my mind is the dust of the saints' feet." Dust lies lowest on the path, so it is an old picture of deep humility.

Har har kathaa sunee mil sangat means "joining the Sangat, I listen to the story of the One." The Sangat is people gathered together to remember the One. Koraa is plain, undyed cloth, and har rang bhayn means "drenched in the One's color." Think of a white T-shirt dipped in dye: it comes out a new color all the way through. Listening is how the color gets in.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you have soaked up just by being around it a lot?
