The True Guru is the Destroyer of pain, the Giver of peace; meeting Him, one is totally fulfilled. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Sing the praises of the Lord of the World, the treasure of mercy.

The True Guru takes away pain and gives peace. Whoever meets the Guru is made whole in every way.

Meeting the True Guru, the heart is made whole and complete.
The deeper layer

Sing of the kind One; meeting the Guru, pain lifts and you are made whole.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad, and it opens Guru Arjan's hymns in this raag. Kirpaa niDh: the treasure of mercy. Dukh bidaaran sukh-daatay: the Guru breaks pain and gives peace, the way a caring doctor eases a fever and lets you sleep. Sagal siDh: fully complete, nothing missing.

A Question to Sit With

Who helps you feel calm and whole when you are hurting?
