Finding The Name In Hard Times

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
kaho naanak taa kai bal jaa-o.
Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to those
ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥੨॥
kalijug meh paa-i-aa jin naa-o. ||4||2||
who are blessed with the Name in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||4||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Nanak says: I gladly give myself to those

who have found the Naam in this dark age, Kali Yuga.

Finding the Naam even in hard, forgetful times is a quiet triumph.
The deeper layer

Those who find the Naam even in a dark, forgetful age are worth honoring.

Bal jaa-o: I give myself gladly, a way of showing deep love and honor. Kalijug, Kali Yuga, is an old name for a dark age when people forget what matters. Finding the naa-o, the Naam, even then is like keeping a candle lit on a windy night.

A Question to Sit With

How can you hold on to what is good even when times are difficult?
