This Precious Life Made Full

ਸਫਲ ਹੋਤ ਇਹ ਦੁਰਲਭ ਦੇਹੀ ॥
safal hot ih durlabh dayhee.
This precious human body becomes fruitful,
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਇਆ ਕਰੇਹੀ ॥੨॥
jaa ka-o satgur ma-i-aa karayhee. ||2||
when the True Guru shows His Kindness. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

This rare and precious human body becomes fruitful

when the True Guru shows it kindness.

This one rare life becomes fruitful when it is turned toward the light.
The deeper layer

This human life is a rare gift, and the Guru's kindness helps it bear fruit.

The verse says safal hot ih durlabh dayhee. Durlabh means rare, hard to get. Dayhee means the body, this human life. Safal means fruitful. So this rare life becomes fruitful.

Think of a seed. It is precious, but a seed kept in a drawer never grows. It needs sun and water. The verse says the sun and water come jaa ka-o satgur ma-i-aa karayhee, "when the True Guru shows kindness." Ma-i-aa means kindness or grace.

So this life is a gift not to be wasted. Grace is what gives it a harvest.
