Every Hope Made Full

ਸਗਲ ਆਸ ਹੋਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
sagal aas hot pooran kot janam dukh jaa-ay. ||1||
All your hopes shall be fulfilled, and the pain of millions of deaths and births shall be gone. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

All your hopes will be fulfilled, and the pain of millions of births and deaths will be gone.

Remembrance fills present hopes and releases even old, deep sorrow.
The deeper layer

Remembering the One fills the hopes you carry today, and lets go of very old sorrow too.

The verse says sagal aas hot pooran: "all hopes are fulfilled." Aas means hope. Pooran means full, complete.

Then: kot janam dukh jaa-ay, "the pain of millions of births goes away." Kot means millions. Dukh means pain.

So this one short line promises two things. The first is for now: the hopes you carry today. The second is for the long past: sorrow carried so long you almost forgot it was there. It is like cleaning your room. You put away today's mess. Then you finally find that old box in the corner and clear it out too.

A Question to Sit With

What is a hope you are carrying right now?
