Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Sing of the feet of the One within your heart.

Remember, and keep remembering, every day, the One who is cool, soothing peace and calm itself.

Remembering the One is like cool calm settling over a heated mind.
The deeper layer

Keep remembering the One, whose presence feels like cool calm on a hot day.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad, like the chorus of a song.

It begins har kay charan hirdai gaa-ay: "sing of the Lord's feet inside your heart." This singing does not need a stage. It happens quietly, within.

Then it describes the One as cooling peace and calm. Seetlaa means cool. Sukh means peace. So the One is like cool, peaceful calm itself.

Think of coming inside from a hot afternoon to a shady room and a glass of cold water. A mind with fever and worry feels that kind of relief. The verse says to find it by simar simar nit: remembering, remembering, every day.

A Question to Sit With

What cools you down and calms you when you feel worked up?
