But in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the noose of Death is cut, O Nanak, and one intuitively merges in celestial peace. ||2||10||

In plain words

Without understanding, people live like animals that do not know any better. They are caught up in doubt, in clinging, and in Maya, the pull of the passing world.

Nanak says: In the Sangat, the company of the holy, the rope of death is cut, and you melt easily into peace.

The Sangat cuts the rope of fear and settles the heart into ease.
The deeper layer

Without understanding you get tangled up, and in the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One — the rope of death is cut and the heart rests.

Bin boojhay pasoo kee ni-aa-ee: without understanding, a person lives like an animal. This is a picture of living without noticing. Such a person is caught in doubt, in clinging, and in maa-i-aa, the pull of the passing world.

SaaDhsang jam jayvree kaatee: in the Sangat, the rope of death is cut. Jam is death, and its rope is the fear that holds us tight. The Sangat is like friends who help you untie a knot you could not undo alone. Sahj samaa-i-aa: then the heart melts into sahaj, an easy, natural peace. Guru Arjan signs the shabad as Nanak.

A Question to Sit With

What is a worry that feels smaller when you are with people you trust?
