In plain words

O mind, chant the Naam of the One, and let the light come in.

Meet the saints of the One and let your love grow there. Stay balanced and free inside, right in the middle of your own home.

You do not have to leave your ordinary life to be free inside it.
The deeper layer

Remember the Naam and you fill with light; love the One's people, and you can be free inside while living at home.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Jap man raam naam pargaas means "O mind, chant the Naam of the One, and be filled with light." Pargaas is light, the kind that lets you see clearly.

Vichay girah udaas means "free inside, within the household." Girah is home and family life. Udaas is a heart that stays clear and unclouded. Think of a lotus: it grows in a muddy pond, and its flower stays clean. You keep your family, school and chores, and your heart stays free in the middle of them.

A Question to Sit With

How can you feel calm and free even in the middle of a busy, ordinary day?
