In plain words

Someone who is drowning finds courage and calm by remembering the One.

Clinging, doubt, pain and hurt all fall away.

Comfort can arrive the very moment we turn toward it.
The deeper layer

Even someone sinking finds steady ground in remembering the One, and clinging, doubt and pain let go.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Boodat paraanee: a person going under. Har jap Dheerai: remembering the One brings courage and calm. Binsai moh bharam dukh peerai: clinging, doubt, sorrow and pain are destroyed.

Think of a tired swimmer far from shore who suddenly feels a rope in their hand. The water is still deep, and now they are held.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that steadies you the moment you turn your attention to it?
