In plain words

O my mind, chant the Naam of the One through the Guru's word.

The One, Har, Har, the Lord of the Universe, has been kind to me. My muddled thinking, my pull toward things other than the One, and the feeling of being far away have all gone.

The lonely feeling of being separate can quietly melt away.
The deeper layer

When the One is kind, muddled thinking, the pull of other loves and the feeling of being far away all melt.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Mayrai man raam naam japi-o gur vaak means "O my mind, chant the Naam of the One through the Guru's word."

Durmat is muddled, unwise thinking. Doojaa bhaa-o is the love of a "second," anything put in place of the One. Jhaak is the lonely feeling of being cut off. Feeling separate sits at the root of much unhappiness. Here kindness melts it, like fog lifting off a lake when the sun comes up.

A Question to Sit With

When do you feel most connected to the people and world around you?
