Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.
Your Naam, my Beloved, is what saves the whole world.
The Naam of the One is the wealth of all nine treasures.
Whoever is dyed in the love of the One, beautiful beyond compare, is full of joy.
O mind, why are you lost in clinging?
With your eyes, look upon the holy ones.
The ones who find this are the ones who have it written on their foreheads as their gift.
The Naam lifts the whole world and holds every treasure, so open your eyes to the holy.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It comes right after ik-onkaar satgur parsaad: there is only One, found by the True Guru's grace. Jagat uDhaaran naam pari-a tayrai: Your Naam, Beloved, saves the world. Nav niDh naam niDhaan: the Naam is the wealth of the nine treasures, all the riches anyone could imagine. Har rang rang rang anoopayrai: dyed again and again in the love of the One beyond compare. Kaahay ray man mohi magnayrai: O mind, why are you drowning in clinging? Nainhu daykh saaDh darsayrai: with your eyes, behold the holy. So paavai jis likhat lilayrai: the one who has it written on the forehead finds it. That writing is the One's gift; nobody can buy it or grab it.
What helps your heart feel ready to notice something good?
