Countless Names, Beyond Measure

har kay naam asaNkh agam heh agam agam har raa-i-aa.
The Names of the Lord are Countless and Unfathomable. My Sovereign Lord is Unfathomable and Incomprehensible.
gunee gi-aanee surat baho keenee ik til nahee keemat paa-i-aa. ||1||
The virtuous and the spiritual teachers have given it great thought, but they have not found even an iota of His Value. ||1||

In plain words

Your Names, O One, are countless and too deep to understand. My Sovereign is beyond reach, beyond understanding.

Good and wise people have thought about You with their whole minds, yet they have not found even a tiny grain of Your worth.

Some things are beyond measuring because they are endless.
The deeper layer

The One has more Names than anyone can count, and no mind can put a price on it.

AsaNkh (countless) and agam (unfathomable) echo the counting language of Japji. The virtuous and the learned (gunee, gi-aanee) give it their full attention, yet they cannot price it. That is wonder, a way of praising. Think of trying to count the grains of sand on a beach: you stop because there is always more.

A Question to Sit With

What is something so big or so beautiful that words can only point at it?
