In The Mountain And The Blade Of Grass

ਇਤ ਉਤ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਰਵਿਓ ਮੇਰ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਨਿ ॥੧॥
it ut dah dis ravi-o mayr tineh samaan. ||1||
Here and there, and in the ten directions You are pervading, in the mountain and the blade of grass. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Here and there, in all ten directions, You are present, the same in the mountain and in the blade of grass.

The same wonder fills the tallest mountain and the smallest blade of grass.
The deeper layer

The One is everywhere, in big things and tiny things alike.

It ut dah dis ravi-o: here, there, in all ten directions, the One is present. The ten directions are the eight points of the compass, plus up and down. In other words, everywhere you could turn.

Mayr tineh samaan — the same in the mountain and the blade of grass. Mayr is a great mountain. Tineh means in the blade of grass.

Think of sunlight. It lights up a tall building and a tiny ant in the very same way. The One makes the great and the small equal. Nothing is too big or too tiny to hold the One.

A Question to Sit With

Where is a small, ordinary place you could look for something wondrous?
