Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
My One knows what is inside me and searches every heart.
Be kind to me, perfect and highest Lord. Bless me with the steady, true mark of Your Word.
The One knows your heart from the inside, and you can ask to be marked with the steady, true sign of the Word.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Antarjaamee means the Inner-knower, the One who reads every heart. Parabh mayraa antarjaamee jaan: my One knows me from the inside.
The one praying does not ask for a prize. The prayer is nihchal sach sabad neesaan — give me the steady, true sign of Your Word. Nihchal means unshakeable. Sach means true, what is real and lasts. Think of a name carved into a tree trunk, next to one written in chalk on the sidewalk. Rain washes the chalk away. The carving stays. The prayer is for that kind of mark on the heart.
What is something in your life that feels steady and lasting?
