In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Hearing the Naam of the One, the One who is in everything, my mind is soaked with joy.

The Naam of the One is nectar, the sweetest taste of all. Following the Guru's teaching, I drink it in, easily and naturally.

The Naam is a sweetness to savor slowly, like a warm drink on a cold day.
The deeper layer

Hearing the Naam soaks the mind with joy, and its sweetness is best sipped slowly, with ease.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Raamaa ram raamo speaks of the One who runs through everything. Sun man bheejai: hearing it, the mind is soaked. Bheejai means drenched, like dry ground after rain.

The Naam is amrit ras meethaa, sweet like nectar. Through gurmat, the Guru's teaching, it is sehjay peejai, sipped with ease. Sehjay describes the natural calm of someone who has stopped forcing things. Think of drinking warm cocoa slowly, not gulping it. And it all begins with deep listening.

A Question to Sit With

What is something good in your life that tastes even better when you slow down and take it in?
