Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Freedom, the key to success, and every kind of comfort cannot equal loving devotion to the Lord.
Nanak says: I am Your servant, and I long to see You. I will never again wander from birth to birth.
Nothing is worth more than loving the One.
The verse lists great prizes. Mukat is freedom. Jugat means clever methods, keys to success. Anik sookh means countless comforts. Yet lavai na laavno: none of them comes close to har bhagat, loving devotion.
Then Guru Arjan, signing as Nanak, says he is daras lubaDh, longing to see the One. With that longing, bahurh jon na Dhaavno: no more running from life to life. In other words, the restless wandering is stilled.
Think of a child at the airport, waiting for a grandparent. Toys and snacks do not matter then. Only one face does. The set of songs ends here, with love above every reward.
What matters more to you than any prize you could win?
