I was unworthy, utterly useless, rusty slag; meeting with the True Guru, I was transformed by the Philosopher's Stone. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

O One, please let the Guru touch me. The Guru is like the magic stone that turns iron into gold.

I had no good in me; I was dull and useless, like rusty scrap. Meeting the True Guru, I was turned to gold by that touch.

The right touch can turn what felt worthless into something golden.
The deeper layer

The Guru's touch can turn a dull, rusty life into gold.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Paaras is the stone of old stories that turns plain metal into gold. Manoor is rusted slag, the scrap left over after metal is burned. The seeker calls the old self nirgunee, without any good qualities. Then mil satgur paaras keejai: meeting the True Guru, that scrap becomes gold. The change is a gift received, never a prize earned.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone whose kindness has made you feel new?
