The Tangled Thread

saakat soot baho gurjhee bhari-aa ki-o kar taan taneejai.
The thread of the faithless cynic is totally knotted and tangled; how can anything be woven with it?
tant soot kichh niksai naahee saakat sang na keejai. ||6||
This thread cannot be woven into yarn; do not associate with those faithless cynics. ||6||

In plain words

The thread of someone turned away from the One is full of knots and tangles. How could anything be woven from it?

No yarn, no cloth, can be made from that thread. Do not keep company with those who have turned away from the One.

Some tangles you cannot fix by tying yourself into them.
The deeper layer

A tangled thread cannot be woven, so choose your company with care.

The saakat, the one turned away from the One, has thread that is baho gurjhee bhari-aa, full of knots. Ki-o kar taan taneejai: how can anything be woven from it? So saakat sang na keejai: do not keep that company. This is about guarding your own peace, never about looking down on anyone. Think of trying to knit with a ball of yarn a kitten has played with all day.

A Question to Sit With

When is it wise to step back from something too knotted to untangle?
