The Perfect Guru Unites Us

My Lord and Master is Glorious and Great. How can I be united in His Union?
ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੮॥੨॥

O Nanak, the Perfect Guru unites His humble servant in His Union, and blesses him with perfection. ||8||2||

In plain words

My Master is great, so very great. How can I ever meet the One?

Nanak says: the perfect Guru brings the One's servant close, into union, and makes that servant whole.

You don't have to reach all the way; you only have to let yourself be brought.
The deeper layer

The One is vast, and the perfect Guru is the one who brings us close.

The seeker feels the gap: mayraa thaakur vadaa, my Master is great. Ham ki-o kar milah: how can I meet the One? The answer is mayl milaa-ay gur pooraa: the pooraa, the perfect and whole Guru, does the joining and gives pooran, wholeness. Union is a gift, never an achievement.

A Question to Sit With

When has someone helped carry you the last part of a hard journey?
