The humble servant of the Lord is lovingly attuned to the Lord, Har, Har, Har; all the faithless cynics pursue him.

The slanderous person acts in accordance with the record of his past deeds; his foot trips over the snake, and he is stung by its bite. ||2||

In plain words

The One's servant is lovingly tuned to the One, Har, Har, Har, while all who turn away from the One come after him, hunting for faults.

The one who speaks badly of others walks the path his own past deeds have set. His foot touches a snake, and he is stung.

When someone acts from old anger, that tangle is theirs to unknot, not yours to carry.
The deeper layer

When you stay tuned to the One, the harm others aim at you turns back on them.

Liv laa-ee: the servant's heart is tuned to the One. The saakat, those who turn away from the One, come after him. The snake-bite picture (pag naagan chhuhi jali-aa) shows how slander, driven by old habits (kirat sanjog), hurts the one who does it, like stepping on a snake on your own path. There is no gloating here, only the natural weight of a hardened heart.

If someone is being unkind to you or hurting you, that is never something you have to accept. Telling a grown-up you trust is always the right thing to do.

A Question to Sit With

How can you stay steady when someone else is stirring up trouble?
