The Thirst Still Waiting To Be Quenched

Those who have terrible luck and bad fortune do not drink in the water which washes the dust of the feet of the Holy.

The burning fire of their desires is not extinguished; they are beaten and punished by the Righteous Judge of Dharma. ||6||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those whose luck is very, very poor do not drink the water that has washed the dust of the holy ones' feet.

The fire of their wanting burns and burns and never goes out, and the Judge of what is right hands them their punishment.

A wanting that never cools is soothed at the feet of holy people.
The deeper layer

A heart that stays far from holy people keeps burning with a wanting that never cools.

Mahaa abhaag means very unlucky. Such people never taste saaDhoo Dhoor, the dust of the holy people's feet, a picture of humble closeness. Their tisnaa, their thirst and wanting, goes on jalat jalat, burning and burning. Dharam raa-ay is the Judge of what is right, an old picture of being called to account.

Think of a thirst that salty snacks only make worse. The cool water was near all along, at the feet of the holy.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel restless and unsatisfied, what helps you feel calm again?
