The Name Weighs More Than All

sabh tirath barat jag-y punn kee-ay hivai gaal gaal tan chheejai.
You may visit all the sacred shrines, observe fasts and sacred feasts, give generously in charity and waste away the body, melting it in the snow.
The weight of the Lord's Name is unweighable, according to the Guru's Teachings; nothing can equal its weight. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You may visit every holy place, keep fasts, hold sacred feasts, give to charity, and put your body through the hardest trials in the snow.

Yet the Naam of the One weighs more than anything can weigh. By the Guru's teaching, nothing comes close to its weight.

No amount of outward doing can outweigh one true holding of the Name.
The deeper layer

The Naam weighs more than every outward practice put together.

Tirath, barat, punn: pilgrimages, fasts and charity, the whole list of religious effort found in every tradition. Atulaa tol raam naam: the weight of the Naam cannot be measured; ko pujai na tol, nothing equals it. Good deeds stay good. The Naam, alive inside, is what matters most.

A Question to Sit With

What is something small and inward that matters more than any big display?
