Rightousness and Dharmic faith, success and prosperity, pleasure, the fulfillment of desires and liberation - all follow the humble servant of the Lord like a shadow. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

O my mind, chant the praises of the One, praises that people say no words can hold.

Doing right, enough to live on, the good things you wish for, and freedom itself: all of these follow the One's servant like a shadow.

Turn toward what matters most, and the other good things tend to follow.
The deeper layer

Turn toward the One, and the other good things of life follow you like a shadow.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Old Indian thought named four aims of life: Dharam (doing right), arath (wealth), kaam (wishes fulfilled) and mokh (freedom). Here they trail the devotee like a shadow (peechhai lag firtha-ee). Chase the One, and the rest quietly follows; chase the good things themselves, and they scatter. Akath (inexpressible) keeps praise larger than words.

A Question to Sit With

Have you noticed good things arriving when you stopped chasing them?
