Showering His Mercy, the Guru bathed me in the Water of the Lord, and all my sins and mistakes were taken away. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I am stained with the dirt of mistakes from life after life, and with the pain and grime of ego, the feeling of being a separate self.

Then the Guru showed mercy and bathed me in the water of the One, and all my wrongs and mistakes were washed away.

The feeling of being all alone can be washed clean like dust in water.
The deeper layer

Ego and old mistakes are like dirt, and the Guru's mercy washes them away.

Ha-umai mail: the dirt of ego (haumai, the feeling of being a separate self). It is dirt to be washed off, the way mud washes off after a game in the rain. Har jal naavaa-ay: bathed in the water of the One. Mercy (gur Dhaar kirpaa) arrives and cleans, and the person receives it.

A Question to Sit With

When has a moment of kindness made you feel clean and light again?
