O One, Treasure of mercy, bless me, so that I may sing Your praises.
Every day I place my hope in You. O One, when will You hold me in Your arms?
Longing for the One you love is itself a kind of closeness.
Longing to be held by the One is a hope you can carry every day.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Kirpaa niDhaan: treasure of mercy, asked for the gift of praise. Nit aas (hope every day) and gal laavhigay (when will You hug me close?) voice tender longing, like a child watching the door for a parent to come home. The waiting is held in trust.
A Question to Sit With
Who do you look forward to being close to again?
