May the bumble-bee of my mind be immersed again and again in the Honey of Your Lotus Feet. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Please grant me this one blessing:

let my mind be a bumblebee that sinks, again and again, into the honey of Your lotus feet.

Let your mind keep returning to what is sweetest and truest, like a bee to honey.
The deeper layer

Your mind can keep coming back to the One the way a bee keeps coming back to honey.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Guru Arjan opens his shabads in Raag Kalyaan with it. Al makrand means the bee and the nectar of a flower. Charan kamal, lotus feet, is a picture of the One's sweetness and nearness. Fayr fayr reejhai means delighting over and over. The coming back is sweetness sought, never a chore done by rote.

A Question to Sit With

What is something so good you keep wanting to come back to it?
