One Drop For The Rainbird

I am not concerned with any other water; please bless this songbird with a Drop of Your Water, Lord. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

No other water matters to me at all. Please give this rainbird a single drop of Your water, my Lord.

Wanting one true thing, and nothing less, is a pure kind of longing.
The deeper layer

Some thirst can be met by only one thing, and your heart can thirst for the One like that.

The chaatrik, the rainbird, is said to drink only one special raindrop and no other water (aan jalaa si-o kaaj na kachhoo-ai: I have nothing to do with other water). It is Gurbani's great picture of single-hearted longing, wanting one thing only. Raag Kalyaan borrows this thirst picture from its neighbors, the rain raags.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something only one thing can satisfy in you?
