Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I bow low and learn from those who love the One — their humility rubs off on me like a blessing.
When I hold the awareness of the changeless, perfect One, pain loses its power to overwhelm me, even in hard and confusing times.
The Guru's word settles my scattered mind; things stop pulling me back and forth, and I can act clearly.
And when I truly see the same One living inside every single being, the fires of greed and anger have nothing left to burn.
Achut means imperishable, changeless. Kali Yuga, the “dark age,” is rendered for children as “hard and confusing times.” The “fire of corruption” (bikhai agan) is the burning of greed and craving. The pauri's climax is pure Ik Onkar in practice: seeing the one presence in all beings is what actually cools anger — you cannot burn with hatred toward what you recognize as yourself.
How might your day change if you saw the same light in every person you met?
