In plain words

We live in houses of sand, like sandcastles on a beach. They are beautiful, but not meant to stand forever. Yet we sometimes puff ourselves up as if they will last for good.

Kabir says being clever is not enough to keep us afloat. What steadies us is remembering the One, gently and often.

Cleverness alone will not hold you up — remembering the One is the anchor.
The deeper layer

A clever mind is not enough. We need an anchor.

Baloo-aa kay gharoo-aa is a house of sand. It stands for the body and this short life. Think of a sandcastle at the beach. It can be beautiful, with towers and walls. But the tide always comes in.

Kabir gently teases us for puffing ourselves up anyway. Fulvat dayh means the body puffed up with pride. Then he says even very clever people, bahut si-aanay, get swept away if they do not remember the One.

Cleverness is not an anchor. Remembering the One is what holds us steady.

A Question to Sit With

What is something steady you can hold onto when life feels shifting and uncertain?
