Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I come and bow, and rest in Your care — You are so full of compassion.

You melt away fear; near You, fear simply loses its grip.

You alone are gentle with the small and the struggling.

I lean my whole weight on You. And like someone who was lost in a wide, stormy sea and suddenly feels solid ground, I am carried safely across — held by You, walking beside good and kind people.

Near the One, fear loses its grip, and you are carried safely across.
The deeper layer

Sharan bandan — sanctuary and bowing. Bhav haran names the One as the remover of fear itself. Moh saagar, the ocean of doubt and clinging, is crossed not by struggling harder but by holding to the One and to the santnaa, the good company. The answer to the first pauri's exhausted effort is here: rest, refuge, and being carried. Guru Arjan signs the shabad (naanak).

A Question to Sit With

What is one worry that feels smaller when you share it and lean on someone who cares?
