In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

I have come and knocked at Your door, O One who holds every treasure.

Deep in my heart, a love for the Name has taken root and grown.

And there is only one thing I am asking for: give me Your Name. That is the gift I want most.

Of everything you could ask for, the Name is the one gift worth asking for.
The deeper layer

This pauri is the rahau alone — the pivot line the rest of the shabad turns around. Sarnee aa-i-o — I have come to Your sanctuary; naath nidhaan — the One is the supreme treasure. The heart already holds naam preet, love for the Name, and asks for one gift only: the Name itself. This is the asking posture — the seeker knows exactly what to request, and it is the One, not the One's gifts.

A Question to Sit With

If you could ask for just one thing that money could not buy, what would it be?
