Please bless me with such love, O my Lord and Master, that in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I may chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord with my tongue. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are perfect and full of peace. With Your kindness, hold me steady and keep my honor safe.

Give me this gift: a warm love for good company, the kind of friends who lift you toward what is true.

And there, among them, let my tongue sing Your praises out loud, gladly.

Ask for good friends and the joy of singing together — that is how honor is kept.
The deeper layer

Pooran parmesur — the perfect One, sukh-daa-ee, giver of peace. Maan raakho is a prayer to keep one's honor, one's dignity, intact. The specific gift requested is saadhoo sang — the company of the good — and within it the joy of singing praise aloud. In this raam naam raag, praise sung with the tongue is the practice itself, framed as glad and healing.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the friends who lift you toward your better self?
