Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Forever and ever, O True One, I praise You. Facing the light, I have come to know that there *is* no other — only You. My mind stays soaked in the One, and when my mind finally surrenders and trusts, it meets You *right there inside itself*.
This one says you meet the One inside your own mind, the moment the mind stops holding back and trusts.
Here is the key line: man mani-ai maneh milaavani-aa — when the mind gives in and trusts, the One is met right there in the mind. You don't meet the One by going somewhere far, or in some distant heaven. You meet Him maneh, in the mind itself, in your own inner space. The meeting place is inside. The treasure you've been looking for is found in the very room you've been searching from.
What opens that inner meeting is mani-ai, the mind's trusting yes. This word holds a lot: to believe, to accept, to follow, to let go, all at once. It is the opposite of what the mind usually does, which is argue, push back and keep control. Think of a clenched fist. It can't take a gift someone is holding out. As long as the mind is clenched, insisting on its own way and guarding its own little "me," it can't meet the One. The clenching is the gap. But the moment it opens, stops fighting and simply trusts, the meeting happens. The One didn't just arrive. He was always there. What was hiding Him finally drops away.
And what do you know in that meeting? Gurmukh jaataa doojaa ko naahee — facing the light, I know there is no other. Doojaa means "a second thing," anything set apart from the One. The trusting mind discovers there is only the One. Aykas si-o man rahi-aa samaa-ay — my mind stays soaked in the One. The song began with sadaa sadaa saachay tuDh saalaahee, praising the True One forever, an "I" speaking to a "You." Here the "I" and the "You" melt into one. The long road of love leads not outward to a faraway God, but inward, through trust, to the One who was always in the innermost room.
What does it feel like, in your body and mind, to finally stop resisting and truly accept something? Where does the tension go?
