In plain words

Serve the true teacher without fear, and the fog of doubt lifts. Do the work the teacher actually asks of you — that is the path.

When the teacher's kindness flows, you come to hold the Name; and the return on that devotion is the best there is, and it comes to the heart turned toward the teaching. A self-centered heart, by contrast, stays trapped in the dark, dealing only in fakeness.

So go to the door of Truth, and speak the truth there. The True One calls the true ones home to its Mansion — and the true stay true forever, melted into the One.

Serve the teacher without holding back, and the very fear that bred your doubt dissolves — and the soul made genuine isn't true for a moment but forever, absorbed in Truth.
The deeper layer

This Pauree is practical instruction, and it begins with a striking word: serve the True Guru fearlessly. Why fearlessly? Because doubt and fear are exactly what hold a soul back from full surrender — the hedging, the holding-something-in-reserve, the anxious wondering whether to trust. Serve without that fear, the Pauree says, and your doubt shall be dispelled. The fear and the doubt dissolve together; wholehearted service is itself the cure for the half-heartedness that breeds doubt.

And the service is concrete: do that work which the True Guru asks you to do. Not the work you would prefer, not a private spirituality of your own design — the actual work the teaching asks of you. This is seva, service, as a practice in its own right, a way the ego is worn down through doing rather than merely believing. And when the Guru's grace flows in response, we meditate on the Naam, and reap the profit of devotional worship — bhagti, named here as the most excellent return a life can earn.

The Pauree closes with the Vaar's recurring image of the Court of Truth. The manmukh, trapped in the dark, practices nothing but falsehood; but the soul that would come home must go to the Gate of Truth, and speak the Truth. You cannot enter the True Court with a false coin or a false word. The True Lord calls the true ones to the Mansion of His Presence — and those who have become true are forever true, absorbed in the True Lord. Becoming genuine is not a temporary achievement but a permanent transformation: once truly merged into Truth, the soul is true, lastingly, with nothing left to assay.

A Question to Sit With

Where are you serving or committing only halfway, holding something back out of fear — and what would wholehearted look like?
