Lift me up and pull me out of the terrifying, treacherous world-ocean; servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||2||2||7||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I've come to Your shelter, One I can't reach on my own; I'm Yours.
Lift me up and out of the rough, tricky waters — Nanak would give anything for You, always.
When the water gets rough, it's brave to ask to be lifted out.
The Du-Pada closes with the bhavjal (the tossing sea) softened to "rough, tricky waters," and a plea to be kadh — pulled out — and nistaaray (carried across). Being "Your slave" is rendered simply as "I'm Yours." Total, trusting surrender to a rescuing One.
A Question to Sit With
When you're in over your head, who do you ask to pull you out?
