The Perfect Guru has united me with the Lord, my Friend; I have sold myself at each and every store for the Guru's Word. ||1||

In plain words

Whoever tells me a story of my One — I'd give them anything, my whole attention, gladly.

The perfect teacher joined me with the One, my Friend; I'd sell everything I have to hear that Word.

Good stories about what's real are worth giving your whole attention to.
The deeper layer

This one is about being so hungry for stories of the One that you would give anything to hear them.

Mayray har parabh kee mai baat sunaavai — whoever tells me about my Lord. The verse says I would give that person my whole mind, even cut into pieces. That is an old way of saying, "I would give everything." It is a picture of total love.

Think of a friend who knows a story about your favorite hero. You would give them your full attention for as long as they talk.

Har saajan means the One as a Friend. That warm word runs all through this raag, Maalee Gauraa.

The verse ends with the same hunger. I would sell myself in every shop to hear the Guru's word.

A Question to Sit With

What kind of story would you drop everything to listen to?
