Raag Maaroo
Commentary

Raag Maaroo, Du-Padas, Mehl 5 (Guru Arjan)

The One never comes or goes, and is always beside you.

The Arc

The perfect, primal One gives peace and is always near — never coming, going, or fading, untouched by heat or cold. The Pause calls the mind to fall in love with the Name and keep the hidden treasure in thought, the cleanest way to live. Whoever holds the merciful One finds their way; that One is ever fresh and new, and the heart is threaded through with love.

Key Vocabulary

  • Marai na aavai na jaa-ay — does not die, come, or go
  • Nidhaanaa — the hidden treasure
  • Naval-navtan — ever new, ever fresh
  • Nirmal reet — the pure, clean way of life

Themes and Cross-Connections

The unchanging One answers the raag's mortality directly: what never comes or goes cannot be lost, so nearness to it steadies everything that does change.

For Raag Maaroo

Death's shadow is met by the One who never leaves — steadiness itself.
