Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 105
Verse 4 of 16

Every Coming and Going Held by One Hand

aapay jorh vichhorhay aapay.
He Himself unites, and He Himself separates.
aapay thaap uthaapay aapay.
He Himself establishes, and He Himself disestablishes.
sachaa hukam sachaa paasaaraa horan hukam na ho-ee hay. ||4||
True is the Hukam of His Command, and True is the expanse of His universe. No one else can issue any Command. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One brings together, and the One draws apart.

The One raises up, and the One lays low, in the great turning of things.

True is the flow of existence, true this whole wide world, and no other hand is writing it.

Every coming together and drawing apart is held by the same gentle hand.
The deeper layer

Union and separation (jorh and vichhorh) are the two movements of every life, and both are held by the same Hukam. In the mortality-raag, this is comfort: nothing falls outside the One's care.

A Question to Sit With

When has something ending made room for something new?
