Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 107
Verse 12 of 16

No Costume Brings the Peace We Want

doojai bhaa-ay firai dayvaanee.
In the love of duality, the world wanders around insane.
maa-i-aa mohi dukh maahi samaanee.
Immersed in love and attachment to Maya, it suffers in pain.
Wearing all sorts of religious robes, He is not obtained. Without the True Guru, peace is not found. ||12||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

A world split in two wanders about, restless and dizzy.

Lost in the shine of things, it aches.

And no special robe or outfit brings the One near; peace comes only through the Guru, from the inside.

Peace is not something you can put on; it grows from within.
The deeper layer

The restless, aching world deserves sympathy. Outer robes, of any tradition, leave the One as far as before; peace grows from within.

A Question to Sit With

What is a kind of calm that comes from the inside, no matter what is around you?
