Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 107
Verse 11 of 16

The Word That Takes Away the Fear of Endings

kaal maar gur sabad nivaaray.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, death is conquered and killed.
har kaa naam rakhai ur Dhaaray.
Keep the Name of the Lord enshrined within your heart.
satgur sayvaa tay sukh paa-i-aa har kai naam samaa-ee hay. ||11||
Serving the True Guru, peace is obtained, and one merges in the Name of the Lord. ||11||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The living Word gently dissolves the fear of endings inside us.

So keep the Name tucked close in your heart.

Serve the Guru, find peace, and melt into the Naam.

The Word does not erase endings; it dissolves the fear of them.
The deeper layer

To conquer death here means to dissolve the fear of it; what is rooted in the deathless Name is untouched. Death is befriended, not battled.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel calm when you think about things ending?
