ਕਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਤੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
kis sayvee tai kis saalaahee.
Whom should I serve, and whom should I praise?
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
satgur sayvee sabad saalaahee.
I serve the True Guru, and praise the Word of the Shabad.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
sachai sabad sadaa mat ootam antar kamal pargaasee hay. ||3||
Through the True Shabad, the intellect is exalted and ennobled forever, and the lotus deep within blossoms forth. ||3||

Who is worth giving my heart to? Who is worth my praise?
I serve the Guru and sing the living Word.
Through that Word the mind is lifted and brightened, and a lotus opens, quietly, deep inside.
Give your heart to the true thing, and something opens like a flower inside.
Who deserves our devotion? The Guru, and the Word. The heart-lotus (hirdai kamal) opening is the old image of vigaas, inner blossoming.
