Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I praise the One who is more real than anything I can name.
When I look, I see only the One — there is no other.
The Guru's teaching is like a ladder, lifting me step by step, and the jewel of understanding melts away the feeling that I am separate and alone.
Understanding gently dissolves the sense of being separate and alone.
Gurmat oocho oochee pa-orhee — the Guru's wisdom is a ladder to the highest of the high. The gi-aan ratan (jewel of understanding) does its work on haumai — the ego, the deep feeling of being a separate self. The ego melts away here: a knot to loosen, never a crime.
